Earlier this year we shared with you how a wounded veteran's journey does not end once they return home. Upon returning to home soil, many struggle to secure housing or face financial woes, all while overcoming the challenges of their wounds. It is with great pride that Rocky Top Log Furniture & Railing has worked with Boulder Crest Retreat for Wounded Warriors to furnish a retreat home where these brave men and women can gather with their families in a peaceful and encouraging environment to deal with these obstacles.

Last weekend our owners, Tommy and Gwen Mitchell, traveled to Bluemont, Virginia to deliver the retreat's brand-new log furniture. The furniture was custom-designed and lovingly-crafted by the Mitchells, who were humbled to honor these heroes and their families. Rustic Chic Outdoor Dining

Here at Rocky Top, we love any reason to gather with our friends and family. We get loud, swap stories and savor the flavors of the season. When we came across this photo by photographer Brie Williams while browsing Pinterest and daydreaming about warmer weather, the stunning, rustic table featured reminded us of one of our favorite pieces to gather around, our Rectangle Cedar Outdoor Table. Naturally resistant to insects and decay, the table is beautifully-crafted of Northern White Cedar logs that have been hand-peeled and sanded to be smooth to the touch.

Freshen Up Your Front Porch

Hey, Friends! We woke up with a dusting of snow on the ground here in Kentucky but we're not letting that keep us from spring-dreaming. So if you have a Christmas wreath still hanging on your front door, here are a few tips for freshening up your front porch to welcome spring!

Create a place to perch!
Here at Rocky Top, we're of the opinion that porches are meant for gathering. Create a welcoming arrangement of furniture so friends (and warmer weather) will come calling.

If you can't paint your front door, consider purchasing a vinyl greeting that will put a smile on your guests' faces.

Re-do a wreath!
If you have an old grapevine wreath lying around, add a few details to freshen it up and hang it on the door. You can keep your design simple and tuck fresh flowers and clippings in the wreath all season long or add a rustic monogram and some burlap flowers to create a no-fuss wreath. And don't be afraid to hang your wreath somewhere other than the front door! This wreath looks lovely on hanging on the window over our rustic, log Kentucky Double Rocker.

Hey, Logheads! It's a cold and dreary day here in Kentucky so we thought we'd send you warm thoughts of spring. Continuing our discussion on the various log railing options we offer for your rustic deck or stair projects, today we bring you our most traditional styles. 

Beautifully-crafted of Northern White Cedar, these log railing options feature smooth-sanded rails with a simple profile. 

Our 2-Rail option builds on our Standard option to create a traditional, ranch look. This style is commonly used for fencing or containment. Our 3-Rail option takes the look another step.

Our Lodge style is truly stunning and is a popular choice for cabins, lodges and resorts. It's rustic yet refined, making it the perfect choice for a luxury retreat.

Log Railing Styles: Mountain Timber

Hey, LogHeads! We've had a touch of warm weather here in Kentucky but it looks like winter will be back again tomorrow. Still, we're thinking spring and we know many of you are, too. This time of year, we get a lot of questions from folks who are thinking about building a log deck but have concerns. Continuing our discussion from last week of the various log railing styles we offer, we thought we'd shine a spotlight on one of our best-loved styles, the Mountain Timber. This rustic and bold style boasts thick-cut, spindles, rails and posts. Made from northern white cedar, the Mountain Timber style is also available in stair railing and with or without tenon ends.
